The temple was built by king of kalinga, king Narasingha Deva I in the 13th century and consecrated by his son Bhanudeva I in 1268 CE. If you visit the temple, you'll see a lot of odia inscriptions (obviously in odia script). Just one more info, Odia is one of the 6 classical languages in india and it has highest amount of digitised literature from past among all indian languages second to sansrit. Its astonishing to see bengali, telugu, kannada mentioned but no mention of Odia. Do proper study I'd say. On another note, the color spectrum of language also shows the religion majority of each location in this map. Interesting.
